One of my good
friends said as soon as they saw the Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2013/14
collection; they knew instantly that I’d fall in love with it. And it is clear to
see why, what is there not to love about this Pre-Fall collection? Sarah Burton
took to “the low church, puritans, nuns, and popes” for the drive behind these
garments, where mood boards filled with imagery of stained-glass windows,
Catholic and orthodox priests, Amish women and the beautiful Audrey Hepburn in
“The Nun’s Story”. The result? A translation of motifs of the high and low
church filled with papal robes, clerical vestments with a puritanical style.
Not forgetting the reminiscent dark atmosphere and wickedness that used to fill
Lee Alexander McQueen’s earlier collections. Black velvet coats with the iconic
McQueen nipped waists, surplice-inspired shirtdresses, jacquard stained-glass
window patterns, hints of luxurious fur, communion lace gowns and sweeping
robes; a collection comprised of beautifully made garments taking Sarah Burton’s
era at McQueen to a new level. To see something like this from Burton is more
than unexpected which makes me fall deeper in love with this Pre-Fall
collection as she grows as a designer at the head of the McQueen company and
makes me more and more excited to see what she will do next. Unfortunately we
will see no big runway show for the Fall/Winter 2013/14 season but a smaller
scaled presentation due to the soon arrival of her twins which I wish Sarah
Burton all the best. See the rest of the collection
