Street style photographers would be drooling
at the mouth if they just so happened to come across one of the above girls
passing by and this is exactly what I was doing when I first came across the
latest lookbook for Givenchy Resort 2013. The spirit of the gypsy blew through Riccardo
Tisci’s Resort collection but this wasn’t your average bohemian style look, it
was something much more. With handkerchief style and silken paisley patterns
dominating the collection, Tisci patchworked this with geometric blocks in
black and white proving that Riccardo Tisci is certainly once again, two steps
ahead in the field of prints with these striking yet mesmerizing designs. The
geometric shapes didn’t stop at the prints as Tisci followed this through with
the shapes and structure of the clothing creating a much more tailored and
almost architectural look that were presented in solid tones of scarlet, black
and white creating eye-popping drama to the collection. Yet Tisci demonstrated
this collection can be suited for all women with a little bit of help of mix
and match as prints could be paired together to create a ‘look at me’ dazzling
look or toned down with sharp cut tailored elements but still creating a
mouth-watering look. What I loved about this collection was the juxtaposition between
the sharp cuts of the bold coloured, button-down shirts with long sleeve slits
to the shoulders creating a cape-like look and the slouchy thigh, paisley
printed sarouel trousers that gave a strong effect of casual-meets-formal. Riccardo
Tisci called the look "romantic, but with a sharpness." Another
feature of this collection that I found particularly interesting was although
Tisci showcased gypsy style prints, the overall looks were not presented in
your average bohemian look. Our Givenchy girls were almost like a futuristic
samurai warrior army, marching their way through the streets in open-toe, knee
high gladiator boots and armed with paisley-print envelope clutches set to
kill. And by kill, I mean with their mind-blowing style. See the full collection
